Verizon Real-Time Customer Event Streams DataStax Production Readiness Review

Verizon Communications engages in the provision of communications, information and entertainment products and services, spanning consumer-focused and business-focused wireless and wireline communications, video and data services.
Verizon replaced slow and expensive legacy batch processing with DataStax Enterprise Cassandra and Spark to capture real-time customer event streams — enabling customer-facing applications to create welcoming first impressions and deliver excellent online experiences. Batch-to-streaming is a change in operational posture as much as architecture, which is why the readiness review matters.
DataStax brought RhinoSource into Verizon to review the DataStax deployment and confirm it was ready for go-live.
RhinoSource reviewed the architecture design of the prod and non-prod DataStax clusters, the DataStax Enterprise cluster settings across data centers, and the data model designs — assessing operational readiness and whether they would perform as expected under real load.
RhinoSource also coached the application development team on data modeling, coding and tuning best practices, and advised on using Spark for real-time dashboards.
Finally, RhinoSource mentored Verizon's system administrators on DataStax Enterprise cluster configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance, and helped them troubleshoot the cluster issues they were seeing.
