GE Digital is a subsidiary of General Electric providing software and industrial internet of things services to industrial companies.
GE Digital built its Predix asset management platform — used by the oil & gas and aviation industries — on top of Cassandra and Graph db. Asset management at that scale means long-lived records under constant revision, which is precisely the workload that generates tombstones.
DataStax brought RhinoSource into GE Digital to improve performance and solve production issues on the DataStax Cassandra and Solr Search clusters behind Predix.
RhinoSource reviewed the architecture, configuration and data model of the Predix DataStax Enterprise clusters, investigated the outstanding issues, and assisted with benchmarking AWS storage alternatives — then made a number of tuning recommendations to improve cluster performance and reduce those tombstone issues.
We also reviewed cluster operational procedures and made recommendations to improve data consistency and read performance.
