Custom Fleet chose DataStax Enterprise Cassandra, Solr and Spark Analytics as the data storage and analytics infrastructure for its next-generation customer-facing Fleet Management Portal.

DataStax deployed RhinoSource to Custom Fleet in Melbourne, Australia to help accelerate development of that new portal application.

RhinoSource reviewed Custom Fleet's use cases, consistency and replication requirements and data model with the development and ops teams, and recommended the schema design changes needed to meet application performance and scalability SLAs.

We then conducted an architecture deep dive covering system configurations, security and load testing environments, and made a number of recommendations to improve overall cluster performance and manageability. Chief among them was a multi-datacenter reference architecture built for Custom Fleet's varying production workloads, segregating Cassandra workloads from Spark analytical workloads to prevent resource contention — the failure mode that turns a reporting query into a customer-facing latency spike.

RhinoSource assisted with the setup of OpsCenter for cluster monitoring and management, mentored the sysadmin team on cluster maintenance tasks, and resolved the Spark issues blocking users from running ad-hoc SQL queries against data in the DataStax Cassandra cluster.

Finally, RhinoSource accelerated Custom Fleet's development process by delivering 4 interactive half day DataStax Enterprise core concepts workshops — advanced material beyond what the standard DataStax online training courses cover, discussing best practices and how Custom Fleet's specific requirements could best be met by DataStax Enterprise features.
